Ohio State Senator Joseph Shiavoni Visits Youngstown Life Skills

State Senator Visits Successful

Dropout Recovery Charter School

Democrat State Senator Joseph Schiavoni (District 33) wanted to visit the Youngstown Life Skills Centers (LSC) school to better understand the problems facing Ohio as thousands of students drop out of traditional public schools every year.

Life Skills Centers leads the way with 18 schools in Ohio, all equipped to work with this population of students.  Since its inception, LSC has helped over 11,000 former dropout students obtain the required credits, as well as to prepare them to pass all Ohio proficiency and graduation tests. Their hard work at LSC to earn a high school diploma makes them work ready or college bound.....and a productive member of their community.

LSC graduate, Robert Villanueva was delighted to meet Senator Schiavoni and explain how this LSC charter school turned his life around.

Administrator Ruth Ann Smith said, "when Robert first arrived at LSC he was a typical teenager who had dropped out of Youngstown district high school.  He was unfocused and not interested in education.   It takes a great deal of work and commitment, but Robert became an outstanding student.  He is very bright".

After receiving his high school diploma in June 2009, Robert enrolled in Kent State University and is pursuing a degree in architecture.

Thanks to Senator Schiavoni for visiting

Life Skills Centers in Youngstown.
