Life Skills of Toledo and OHDELA Give Back

On Thursday, August 11th, the Life Skills of Toledo and OHDELA held a community day with a special twist. Not only would it be a chance for the community to get information about the two programs, but also a way for the schools to give back in the form of feeding their community.

Feed the Children TruckThe two schools collaborated on a "Feed the Children" truck event from 11am - 2pm at the Life Skills of Toledo on Adams Street near downtown and were able to give back to 400 families in the Toledo community by giving each a box of food, a box of personal care items and a case of bottled water.

The event was such a feel-good story that even FOXToledo came out and interviewed Life Skills of Toledo administrator JonMarie Morris and then featured the event on their newscast. Plus, Mix 95.7 came out and did a broadcast from the event as well.

Besides the Feed the Children aspect of the day, there were plenty of other activities going on in the side yard at the Life Skills of Toledo as well.

Kids had a chance to play in the bounce house and obstacle course provided by Game Craze and people of all ages had a blast in the human hamster balls, also provided by Game Craze. While not playing on the inflatables, kids had the opportunity to interact with Muddy, the mascot of the Toledo Mud Hens (Triple-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers), who was there with ticket giveaways.

Once inside the school, people could check out the various vendor tables which included ARC Ohio, Neighborhood Health Association, East Toledo Family Center and the Ohio State University Extension, among others. They could also get a tour of the Life Skills of Toledo and learn more about enrollment if interested in the program.

All in all, it was a great day for the schools to have a chance to give back to their communities and a productive way to teach students a sense of civic duty.
