Life Skills of North Akron Knows How to Party
What is normally a parking lot at the Life Skills of North Akron for staff, students and visitors was transformed into a party zone on Friday, August 12 at 11am as the school hosted its' annual back-to-school bash.
There was plenty to do and see at the event, which could not have happened on a more beautiful August day.
For starters, there was always a game to be had at the basketball court, where even the staff joined in at times in games against or with their students. There were cornhole boards set up which also remained pretty busy and a ping pong table as well that kept kids of all ages entertained. If those were not your thing, you could head over to one of the tents where board games were set up, from chess to scrabble.
Those who were not feeling like playing games could head over to other tents that featured a place for kids to color or for anyone to get their face painted. There was some pretty elaborate face painting going on, including some that covered the full face.
If you were hungry, Life Skills of North Akron administrator Ms. Ferguson was grilling hot dogs, plus there was pizza and cupcakes to enjoy as well.
Life Skills of North Akron enrollment specialist Ms. Jackson was also popular, as she held down the tent where people could sign up for giveaways, which ranged from donated gift certificates to earbuds to bicycles.
Students also had the chance to get a bag of school supplies that were donated by the OCCS Board of Directors.
While students and parents were not enjoying one of those activities, they could head over to vendor row, where companies such as ONC Bank, Plato's Closet, A New You, the FI Community Housing Association and NextStep were all there with brochures and information. Students could also get a glimpse of continuing their education, as the University of Akron and ITT Tech had representatives on hand as well.
Throughout the day, there was always music playing, courtesy of DJ Smoov. At one point, Ms. Ferguson and Ms.
Jackson even led groups in dancing to the "Cha-Cha Slide" and the "Cupid Shuffle".
At the end of the day, everyone had a blast and Ms. Ferguson and her staff at the Life Skills of North Akron deserve a pat on the back for a job well done.
