Life Skills of Cleveland to Host Education Resources Cook-out
The Life Skills of Cleveland (4600 Carnegie Ave.) will be hosting an 'Education Resources Cook-Out' on Friday, May 20, 2011 starting at 2:00 pm with admission open to the public.
There will be plenty of activities for everyone to get involved, as the school will hold different workshops, discussions and health screenings and will even show a movie for those interested.
"We are trying to get some of the community organizations to come together so this event will have a feel of an involvement opportunity for people to come in and do things while they are here," Life Skills of Cleveland Administrator Vernon Fawcett said.
The school has reached out to the community and come up with a number of workshops, including an HBCU college tour workshop, a financial literacy workshop, a resume writing clinic and a workshop on how to interview for employment.
There are also events detailing how to dress in the workplace as there will be a 'professional etiquette' fashion show and panel discussions on dressing for success for both men and women.
The enrollment office will double as a mini health clinic, with dental screenings, an STD workshop and then a discussion on breast cancer awareness taking place during the four-hour event.
One of the classrooms at the Life Skills of Cleveland will transform into a movie theater over the last two hours, where there will be a screening of the movie "Waiting for Superman".
While all of this is going on, there will also be hot dogs, chips, cookies and pop available and anyone who is interested in enrolling into the Life Skills of Cleveland can have their questions answered and get an enrollment packet during the event.
If it sounds like more than just a normal open house, it is because the Life Skills of Cleveland staff planned it that way.
"It is larger than a normal one," Fawcett said. "We wanted an event for parents and the community to get the feel for what Life Skills is trying to do."
