Dreams Come True For 65 Life Skills Students
On Monday night, June 13, 2011, The Ohio Theater at Playhouse Square was transformed into a house of pomp and circumstance, caps and gowns and dreams realized.
With family and friends looking on, 65 students from Life Skills in the Cleveland area walked across the stage and were handed their high school diploma, the perfect end to all the years of hard work.
For the second graduation in a row, the Life Skills of Cleveland, Life Skills of Lake Erie, Life Skills of Northeast Ohio and Life Skills of Elyria all came together at the Ohio Theater to honor those students who had persevered and earned their diploma.
Life Skills of Lake Erie Administrator Mark Beaumier gave the welcome and then after the invocation by Pastor Yuri Ammari, he led the crowd in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Following the National Anthem, Life Skills of Lake Erie Administrator Eric Woods introduced the guest speaker, Cleveland City Councilman Pernel Jones, Jr., who delivered the evening's commencement address.
Jones, Jr. spoke to the crowd for about 10-15 minutes before the moment all of the students had been awaiting for arrived.
Beaumier and Woods were joined by Life Skills of Cleveland Administrator Vernon Fawcett and Life Skills of Northeast Ohio Administrator Jennifer Minor as they handed out the diplomas to their proud graduates.
Life Skills of Northeast Ohio led the way with 30 graduates, Life Skills of Elyria had 14 graduates, Life Skills of Cleveland had 12 graduates and the Life Skills of Lake Erie had nine graduates.
For those 65 students, some who may have never thought achieving this goal was possible, the night of July 13, 2011 is one that they will never forget.
