Broadway Academy Grand Opening A Success
On a bright and sunny afternoon in Cleveland, "Let's Get it Started" by the Black Eyed Peas came blaring from the speakers and get started it did. With that song, the Grand Opening of the Broadway Academy at 3398 E 55th Street in Cleveland was off to a fast start with kids and parents lining up to get into the school and get registered for the 2011-12 school year.
Once inside the school, students were treated to a bag with school supplies consisting of a folder, notebook, pack of pencils, pack of crayons and glue stick that they could save for the first day of school. After gathering their supplies, parents and students could either head to the cafeteria where hot dogs were being served, show off their skills in the gym where basketball was being played or head across the hall to check out a wide variety of vendors.
Once inside the vendor room, there was information on school nutrition, the Cleveland Christian Home, University Settlement, The Ohio Benefit Bank, The Boys and Girls Club, Silverman's Uniforms for Kids, the YMCA and White Hat Management's other schools - Life Skills and DELA.
The Cleveland Gladiators had a booth as well, where they set up a couple of bobbleheads and jerseys and were even equipped with tickets for their game Friday night against the Pittsburgh Power if anyone was interested in purchasing them.
David Lee Morgan, Jr. was there as well with a table set up to show off his M(ost) V(aluable) P(erson) program in which he teaches students at the different Academies the importance of literacy and character. On the table were copies of books that Morgan, Jr. has written, such as "LeBron: The Rise of a Star", "High School Heroes", "Kelly 'The Ghost' Pavlik: The Pride of Youngstown" and "Game Changers: The Greatest Plays in Ohio State Football History".
Morgan, Jr. was also equipped with a binder that was given to him by former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel that outlines the Ohio State off-field dedication to character, which is what the M.V.P. program has been based upon.
After going through all of that, students could head upstairs and go through an academic challenge or get their face painted before heading back outside. Once outside, they were again greeted by music provided by DJ Dominic Donatelli of Donatelli Entertainment and activities provided by Game Craze, as they were on site with some of their massive inflatables. In the Inflatable pit, there was a slide, a bouncy house and an obstacle course that students could play in.
After the students were done with all of that, they could head on over and pick up some popcorn and/or cotton candy for the perfect end to the day.
By all accounts, the Grand Opening of Broadway Academy was a success as it was a fun-filled event where a good time was had by all in attendance.
